Disposal Services Authority
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) set up the Disposal Services Authority (DSA) to manage the disposal of surplus assets and ensure that items are reused or recycled not only with minimum waste and environmental impact but also maximum financial return to the government.
As part of its development, the DSA obtained funding to develop a transactional website which would enable it to extend its conventional sales channels by bringing together buyers and sellers.
Following an open tender process, Commerce Media was awarded the contract for the implementation of the website. Initially the online portal was run as a pilot to prove the viability of the concept, ensure that the channel could become a fundamental part of the DSA’s operation and, most importantly, to guarantee that the system was secure enough to satisfy the standards required by the MoD and its accreditors.
The pilot marked the start of an ongoing partnership between the DSA and Commerce Media as the organisations embarked on the development and deployment of eDisposals.com. In 2009, the success of the website was officially recognised when it won the eGovernment Excellence Award for Shared Services. This industry accolade acknowledged the effective service delivered by the site and its ability to offer efficient gains, including significant cost-savings.
